Details & description
Developed for racing in what later became the World Endurance Championship (WEC), this car represents a major technical leap forward from the F430 GTC, especially in its aerodynamics and chassis, which features a fully race-ready suspension.
The 458 GTE was the first GT racing car equipped with direct fuel injection. The electronic system also received significant upgrades—the most notable improvements compared to the F430 GTC were in the car’s electronics—and the engine was enhanced as well. The 458 marked the biggest engineering breakthrough in Michelotto’s history. Although it continued to evolve during its production years, no radical changes were made from the original build. Its successful racing record includes category wins at the WEC in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014, along with top podium finishes at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2012 and 2014.
Because of its success, the WEC organizers introduced the BoP (balance of performance) system, which favored rival brands. This system aims to ensure fair competition, but it is rarely fully transparent and reflects a principle that’s hard to accept in sport—humbling the fastest in favor of less capable cars. Essentially, the organizers decide the winner by penalizing the best. Forty-four 458 GT4s were built.
Chassis F142 GT *2850* was produced in February 2012 and delivered to France. It has been upgraded to the latest specifications and is configured unrestricted (650 HP) with ABS installed.
